This event aims to to raise awareness about the importance of good hearing health. Hyperacusis and tinnitus: a theme of JNA Québec 2018
On May 2nd, JNA Québec wanted to mobilize the population about hyperacusis and tinnitus.
Hyperacusis, a hearing disorder, is defined as an over sensitivity to certain sounds and frequencies. This condition can cause isolation, stress and fatigue, just to name a few.
As for tinnitus, it is a sound, such as a hissing or buzzing, “heard” only by the affected person. Tinnitus may have more pronounced effect on people who already suffer from hearing loss. This condition can lead to difficulties with sleeping and concentration, and even anxiety.
Hearing, essential to our quality of life
We often neglect our hearing, yet this sense plays a vital role in our quality of life. Everyone can be affected by hearing loss: whether it is workers exposed to continuous loud noises or young people who listen to loud music. It is thus necessary to focus on prevention and on taking actions as soon as the first signs of hearing loss appear. Hearing screening is an excellent first step in determining whether you need to do a complete assessment of your hearing.
